How Sweepstakes Casinos Work

Sweepstakes casinos are free-to-play platforms operating under US federal sweepstakes law. You play with two virtual currencies and can redeem real cash or gift cards without ever buying anything.

The two-coin system

Gold Coins (GC) are the practice currency. They keep the games fun, but they have no cash value and cannot be redeemed.

Sweep Coins (SC) are the redeemable currency. Once you accumulate the minimum (usually 50 SC), you can convert SC to cash via bank transfer, PayPal, or gift cards.

How you get free Sweep Coins

You never need to spend a dollar. SC are awarded through:

  • Welcome bonus at signup
  • Daily login rewards
  • Social media promotions (Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Mail-in requests (the sweepstakes law equivalent of “no purchase necessary”)
  • Bonus SC alongside Gold Coin purchases (purchases are optional)

How redemption works

Once you reach the SC threshold, request a redemption from your account dashboard. The operator will ask for ID verification (KYC) before the first redemption — this is standard regulatory compliance. After KYC, redemptions typically clear in 24-72 hours depending on the operator.

State availability

Most US states allow sweepstakes casinos. Common exceptions include Washington, Idaho, Michigan, and a handful of others. Each operator maintains its own state list — always check before signing up.

Age requirements

18+ at minimum, 21+ in some states. Every operator verifies age at registration.
